It is with heavy hearts that we inform everyone about our beloved friend, colleague and son. Dan Whigham died unexpectedly on Tuesday afternoon, May 26, 2009. He was a wonderful musician and friend to all who met him. Dan will be missed but he will be remembered.
DANNY LADON WHIGHAM
ABBEVILLE. . .Danny LaDon Whigham, a resident of County Road 101, Abbeville, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, May 26, 2009, in the emergency room of a Eufaula hospital. He was 37.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P. M. Thursday, May 28, 2009, in the Union Springs Baptist Church, near Newville, with Reverend Jim F. Corley and Reverend Charles W. Price, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 P. M. Thursday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Danny Whigham Funeral Expense Fund, c/o Freddie Brannon, 947 County Road 12, Headland, AL 36345.
Danny Whigham was born and reared in Headland. He was a 1990 graduate of Headland High School and was a member of the Marching Blue and Gold Band and also a 1990 State Honor Band recipient. He attended Wallace College where he was in the Jazz Band and also attended Troy University-Dothan. He moved to the Brown’s Crossroads community of Henry County in 1998. Danny was employed as the Manager of the Henry County Senior RX Prescription Program. An accomplished musician, he served as a vocalist, keyboardist and booking agent for the Shane Owens and 231 South Band. Danny was a member of the Union Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Berry and Clara Hodges and Daniel E. and Blondell Whigham and also by an uncle, Dale Tompkins.
Surviving relatives include his parents, Don and Patty Hodges Whigham, Headland; a brother, Johnathan Barry Whigham, Abbeville; aunts and uncles, Wanda and Freddie Brannon, Headland; Lavenia Tompkins, Troy; Wanda and George Williams, Ozark; several cousins.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Barry Steadman, Shane Owens, John Sellers, Clint Carroll, Scotty Ward, Mike Gilmore, Don Davis, Hollis Taylor and Johnny Barron.
